Automated Security Classification of Financial Data for a Wealth Management Office

A Wealth Management Office selected Castlepoint to implement intelligent, automated security classification to proactively address data protection. Facing motivated threat actors targeting their industry, the organisation required a solution to identify records for disposal to reduce risk, while simultaneously automating sensitivity labelling to enforce Data Loss Prevention (DLP) across their Microsoft 365 and Salesforce environments.

The Challenge

Financial services providers of all sizes are at risk of security and privacy breaches, with a very active and motivated set of threat actors targeting the industry. This Wealth Management Office sought to undertake a proactive approach to data protection, seeking a solution that could classify their extensive database of records as well as automatically determine record sensitivity and apply appropriate labels in response.

The Solution

Castlepoint was selected to register and classify content in Microsoft 365, the file shares, and the Salesforce platform, identifying records able to be disposed of. The organisation also implemented Castlepoint’s Automated Data Classification capability for Purview, using sensitivity ontologies to accurately determine what security marking each document and email should have, with clear explanations, and to push those labels to Purview so that DLP could be applied effectively.

The platform delivered:

  • Hosted cloud deployment
  • Automated record sentencing with AI
  • Agentless management of multiple systems
  • Automated identification of high-risk data
  • Automated security labelling for Purview
  • Copilot readiness, audit, and governance

The Outcome

The implantation of combined retention and security autoclassification provided the foundation for the Office's dynamic approach to data protection. Castlepoint facilitates a proactive approach to automated security labelling and retention within the Office's M365 environment enabling top level security for their financial services.

Key results included:

  • 19.7 million items with 39.5 million key phrases extracted
  • 2,000 systems in scope of the automated classification
  • 24,000 aggregated records for auto retention
"The fund are early adopters in the private sector of our innovative capability to automatically apply accurate security markings with XAI, showing real leadership in a high-risk threat environment."
